"My partners Heart Attack and after care"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

My partner was taken to Blackburn 12 months ago. He had a massive heart attack and 3 stents fitted. The time in critical care was good no probs there, it's the after care that has been the problem. He was sent home and told the cardiac nurse would ring with appointments for him. He saw the cardiac nurse twice for roughly an hour each time, he was given a book to read about heart attacks and that was it. The phycological side of having a heart attack as I now know is very impacting the stress and worry of having a Potentially life threatening episode has had a great affect on his mental health and subsequently myself. He arranged for himself some CBT which hasn't helped because it is not specific enough. We have since been told that Blackpool-and Liverpool hospitals do an intensive 8 week course of treatment, group meetings and the like for this problem why is there nothing for Blackburn patients? He has also recently had an angiogram because he is feeling unwell, which showed up more blockages. Why on earth couldn't the doctor stent these blockages whilst he was in there instead of sending him home with more worry and still feeling unwell it's beyond me please explain .

Many thanks for your feedback regarding your partner’s treatment following his heart attack and thank-you for taking the time to do so.

I am very sorry that you have concerns about his treatment, particularly his aftercare and I will make sure your comments are passed on to the relevant team.

If you would like to talk to one of our Patient Experience team so we can understand what made this such a poor experience for you and your partner, we would really value this so that we can try to improve things for every patient visiting our hospitals and services. You can either contact me (Melissa Almond) on 01254 734087 or email me on melissa.almond@elht.nhs.uk

Or if you prefer you can discuss further any concerns you may have about our services with our East Lancashire Hospitals Trust Customer Relations team on 01254 733700 or complaints@elht.nhs.uk who can advise you of your options in raising these concerns further.

If you would like to share your experience in confidence with an independent organisation please contact Healthwatch BwD on 01254 504985 or info@healthwatchblackburnwithdarwen.co.uk
