My father was quite elderly in his mid 80's having been transferred from another hospital, due to infections which caused him to go off his feet. So in regards to my fathers time at the hospital - First of all the staff seem friendly & helpful which is commendable. However I personally feel that they do not spend enough time trying to rehabilitate patients that need more care. For the most part my father was simply left lying in a bed & the only time we saw a wheel chair appear was when we heard that assessors / auditors were on the prowl - this doesn't bode well. Also we were repeatedly told that my father was incontinent, yet every time we visited my father told us when he wanted to go to the toilet. When we went to tell the nurses that my father wants to go the the toilet, they simply sent someone to change him like a baby - no effort to take him to the toilet or help him keep his dignity. My father even said to us (despite his dementia) that he was ashamed about people messing with him. There was no encouragement in my opinion to get my father to stand or walk (this is called rehabilitation - this cant be done simply letting someone lie in bed) . I understand that a patients cannot be forced to walk or stand, but encouragement is the key word here & it just seems to me that time, care & patience were all absent here. Got to be honest guys - sorry.
