"Broken Leg/Ankle"

I unfortunately had a sporting injury in an extreme running race on Sunday September 27th down in Hastings where i injured my ankle. Whilst i finished the race and was seen by medics on the course, they said i should go to the nearest hospital for a check up but chose to have my friend drive me back home so could admit myself to a local A&E in Southend.

I have never been to A&E before and was dreading the experience and whilst the wait was long, it was as expected and within the timeline i was given on admittance. The staff in A&E were extremely good and kind and can't fault them.

I was then informed i would be admitted as needed to have a 'reduction' on the leg/ankle after X-ray confirmed it was broken and likely needed an operation within 24hrs. I was admitted onto SAU and the staff there was just brilliant both day and night. i was there for 24hrs and the lead up to, during and post the operation again i could not fault the care i received.

Post this i was admitted to Shopland ward for another 24hrs and was put onto a side room which was great ad again the care was 2nd to none.

Given i had never had a broken bone before or been admitted into hospital let alone had an operation, i found the whole experience (whilst unfortunate for me) very comforting and came away with great admiration for what all the doctors, nurses and surgeons do for people like me.

I wanted to make a special thanks to those staff on SAU who overall stood out from everyone else. Please pass on my thanks to everyone in these areas and especially SAU team.
