"terrible home visit"

About: Newham General Hospital

I had a great experience having my baby at Newham General however the midwife who came to do my first home visit, is the worst midwife i have ever met. They came to do my first home visit and barely even looked at my daughter picking her up for less than 1 minute. I commented that my mother and mother in law had noticed my daughter my have jaundice without looking at her they said no she is fine. Two days later a lovely community team midwife came out to weigh my daughter and commented on how yellow her skin was and advised me to take her to A and E. I am now currently watching my 5 day old baby in an incubator being given treatment because the first midwife could not be bothered to do her job properly. I can pinpoint it to the fact that i have two cats and the midwife was scared of them and they were in my home for less than 10 minutes. They also aggressivly told me I should continue to breastfeed longer than i actually wanted to as in their opinion it was better. I found this midwife to be rude and extemely unprofessional. If this is the midwife on my next home visit they will not be entering my property let alone anywhere near my child. If they had done the job properly the jaundice my daughter now has would have been a lot more easily treated and less traumatic for her and me and my husband as first time parents.

We are very sorry to read your experience of your visit from our midwife. This must have been very upsetting and stressful for you and your husband. All of our staff should behave in a professional and caring manor towards our patients at all times.

We would like to look into what happened at your visit in more detail so that we can make improvements to the service we provide. To do this we will need to know more detailed information about your visit. Please contact Pearl Kowlessar-Manoo,

Midwifery Manager for Low Risk Care direct at Pearl.kowlessar-manoo2@bartshealth.nhs.uk

Kind regards

Barts Health NHS Trust
