When arriving at the labour ward (18) we were made to feel as though we were wasting the midwife and HCAs time, it was approaching their shift handover and told us to take a seat, then ignored us for 5-10 minutes whilst the midwife proceeded to make phone calls to arrange their transport home. When they finally examined me, after being told they would be sending us home, we were rushed straight to the labour suite. Thankfully our whole experience changed when we arrived here, we were greeted by another midwife and a student midwife. This midwife was lovely and calm and immediately put me at ease, the student midwife was friendly and polite. Both of them always fully explained everything and answered all our questions. Due to the babies position we had to be rushed for an emergency section, although it was an emergency section, and we were rushed to theatre working 5-10 minutes, the whole experience felt calm and under control. The theatre team who dealt with us are a credit to the Trust, the anaesthetist was very caring and calming when dealing with myself and my husband. Our hospital stay lasted 5 days and during this stay we encountered many midwifes who were working 2-3hours over their designated shift to cover low staffing levels, I sincerely hope their dedication to the service provided is appreciated by senior Trust management. Our baby required treatment on the special care unit, the paediatricians were extremely efficient and it was a relief to know they were doing all the relevant tests and treatments to rule out any serious illness. We were looked after my quite a few different midwifes and I only wish I could remember all their names to thank them. After reading some negative reviews before my admission I was rather nervous but my experience was one consisting of pleasant, approachable and very caring members of staff at every level.
