"Elderly care"

About: Lister Hospital

My father had amazing care in the A&E department. I cannot but praise everything and everyone connected with A&E. But it went downhill from there, unfortunately, a lot of the nurses who cared for my elderly father had a 'do as little as possible' attitude. He was very weak, with a fractured shoulder, so they gave him a hot tea full to the brim, I had to ask for a tipee cup. He was given a jug of water but no beaker. In Ashwell ward he was given his dinner with no cutlery and 9B were the worst (grim) people just staring into space, no stimulation at all. I was not informed my dad had been moved to QVM in Old Welwyn. I turned up and he wasn't even at The Lister!

I cannot remember the amount of times I had to go and get a nurse, as one of the elderly gentlemen had been calling for a bed pan. The longest I timed before I intervened was just under 10 minutes. My opinion of the nursing profession has been affected greatly.

Whilst pleased to learn how highly you rated our A&E at the Lister, we are concerned at your comments about the standards of nursing care on our wards, especially Ashwell wand 9B. Would you mind contacting us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net so we can get this followed up?
