I had to attend the A and E department on Sunday morning. I am epileptic and I had accidentally taken my medication twice. I rang
N.H.S. Direct, they listened to what I had to say and advised me to go to A and E. My husband took me straight away. When we arrived I went to reception and told them why I was there, so I was told to wait. I soon saw the Initial review nurse. The nurse told me not to worry too much as " they " assuming " they " are the doctors, would probably just tell me not to take my medication that night. They also said that N.H.S. Direct were no good. So what is the point of having the option to talk to them before going to A and E. I was worried because I also had a cold and had been taking Ibuprofen as well. I was still waiting nearly two hours later. My husband who is disabled had to go back to the car as the seats were too uncomfortable. I started to feel very drowsy, so I went to reception and told them I would have to leave as I needed to go to sleep. They didn't make any effort to keep me there. My husband came back to see how I was, and he took me back to the car, I just fell asleep and when I got home I went straight to bed and slept for about four hours. The next day I felt terrible.
While I was waiting there was a lady behind me who had been brought in by Ambulance, I heard her saying to her daughter that she had had a funny do but felt fine, and they were laughing and joking, and she was seen before me.
It will probably be in my notes now that I refused treatment, which was not really the case. I was not very impressed with my visit.
