I have been under the 'care' of this hospital for almost 6 years and so far my diagnosis has been, 'its your age, you're neurotic, you need a man, you're a great actress, go home, there's nothing wrong with you'.
Discharged so many times at 2/3/4am with no means of getting home (one hours drive away), wearing nightclothes on many occasions.
I was treated appallingly, with no respect and very sketchy medical care.
After asking my GP to request a 2nd opinion from another Hospital I was admitted via ambulance after one of my many episodes (32 this year alone) and within two days I was diagnosed as having serious heart condition and was booked into theatre the following day for dual lead pacemaker, after spending two day in Cardiac Care Unit, monitored with four machines and one 'episode' witnessed by both staff and monitors.
Royal Cornwall Hospital is awful and I would rather visit my local Vet than that place again.
Staff are beligerent, complacent and uncaring.
One night I walked out from ED after sitting in cubicle for over three hours where I heard staff discussing what they were going to do on days off, which Dr was going out with which Nurse... words fail me. It took me an hour to get home, and after three hours the staff realised I was 'missing' and they rang me at home to ask me where I was??
I walked right past them as I left and not a word was spoken, even though I was wearing wrist band and in obvious discomfort.
Its just not good enough I'm afraid, and if the staff would like to see how a Hospital should be, please feel free to visit Derriford Hospital, I'm sure you could learn a lot from them.
