"Poor treatment"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Had an endoscopy recently to confirm a diagnosis of silent reflux.Arrived at the department on time and was only waiting ten minutes to see the consultant.Absolutely zero interaction or even an "hello how are you" from the consultant nothing just a barrage of questions read from a sheet of paper with little no chance to discuss or explain my symptoms. No pain relief spray offered to try and ease the discomfort of the procedure it almost seemed like I was being dealt with by a vet rather than a consultant.Apparently my throat was ok even though I have suffered with it for over three months and still suffering now despite medication for silent reflux being prescribed.I left feeling as though I will just have to put up with it as I would dread and have no confidence in going back to that department.

I’m really sad to read that you describe your care in the ENT department as more ‘like a vets’.

As an advocate of the #HelloMyNameIs campaign the fact that your doctor did not introduce him/herself is really disappointing and I’m sorry that you left the hospital feeling as though the only option is to put up with the condition.

I will pass your post on to our surgical division who manage ENT services.

In the meantime I hope you read my response so that you can let us have your contact details.

You can either call our assistance & complaints team on 01246 512640 or email me at sarah.turner-saint@nhs.net

Kind regards Sarah Turner-Saint Head of Communications
