"I don't know where I'd be without these services"

About: Children & younger people's services / Broxtowe Healthy Family Team Stapleford Children's Centre

(as the patient),

I am new to the area and moved here a week before I gave birth to my daughter. My health visitor, Jo Lyons, contacted me as soon as she had my details and arranged to come out and see me (however my waters broke before I could have my appointment! ).

Jo came out to see me once our daughter had been born, and I have been so impressed with the support that I have received. Jo provided me with lots of useful information such as local groups that I can attend and an emergency contact number should I need to hear back from a health visitor quickly if she wasn't available. Jo also gave us fantastic advice about how to care for our daughter, for example when she had a problem with a 'sticky eye'. Jo really put us at ease and answered any questions that we had.

Jo passed on my details to the local breastfeeding support worker which has been a fantastic help, as it meant that I found out about a breastfeeding support group called Babes which is run at the Stapleford Care Centre. I have been attending that group since my daughter was 2 weeks old and it has been an important activity for me as it has encouraged me to continue to breastfeed even when I was struggling. This is due to the support received from Carole, the support worker, and the other mums who attend the group. Without this group I probably wouldn't get out of the house on a Tuesday! It has also helped me to meet some lovely people.

Jo also told me about the local Surestart Centre in Stapleford which has been a real lifeline for me. This involves a weekly group called Newborn Bundles which gets me out and about on a Monday morning. This is run by a lovely member of staff and volunteers who are very supportive and answer any questions that us new parents may have.

The services that I have accessed have been invaluable. They are the reason that I get out of the house and am meeting lovely new people. They have also helped me to continue to breastfeed my baby successfully. I don't know what I would do without these services and groups

Hi BecP. Thank you. This community service is run by City Care (rather than NUH). I have shared your kind feedback with our City Care partners – however if you wish to contact them directly you can do so by emailing customercare@nottinghamcitycare.nhs.uk.

Kind regards,

Sarah Kennedy. Patient Experience Officer.

Hi BecP,

Thank you for this posting it is really useful for us to receive feedback of this nature.

I am glad that you have found the services both helpful and beneficial to both you and your child and that these groups have helped you continue breastfeeding. I hope you will continue to use the Children's Centre and Care Centre in the future and that you continue to find the staff helpful and supportive. I will pass your comments on to staff who I'm sure will welcome your comments

Thanks once again

HI Bec P

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your story.

As a children's centre we are so dependent on our partnership working with key agencies in order to provide the best possible service to the families in our area.

Your story is a fantastic example of this partnership working and its effectiveness, from your introductory visit with the health visiting team followed by the 121 support you recieved from the infant feeding support worker right through to attending our BABES group to gain support from our trained peer support volunteers which then encouraged you to access our new born bundles group.

We do hope your journey with us continues as we try and provide a seamless service from ante natal care right through to children starting school.

If you do have any suggestions in any ways we can improve our service I would be most pleased to hear this either by posting on this page or contacting me direct at the children's centre.

Thanks again

Dear BecP,

Thankyou so much for taking the time to share your experience of the invaluable support and advice you received from Jo as your Health Visitor, the Breastfeeding support worker and staff and volunteers at the Children's Centre. I'm really pleased that you found the information Jo gave you useful and felt confident to attend the Babes and Children's Centre Newborn Bundles group, especially as you were new to the area.

It is so important to get feedback from you so that we can make sure our services are the best that they can be.

Thanks again

Sherrel
