"No treatment of patient as a whole person"

My husband was admitted after a fall at home resulting in a fracture to his neck. When asked if the blurred vision he has could have been a contributory factor to the cause of the fall I was told that it was an orthopaedic ward and they didn't deal with eyes. He has an appointment which I have already before the accident brought forward to the 5th October and would have thought that in view of the accident it would have been right to get his eyesight checked.

I am also dissatisfied with the lack of hygiene as when I was able to visit I found that in spite of him having plenty of clean underwear he had had no change of underwear in a week.

When I visited last Sunday there was a full urinal on his table and as he had been told off for pressing his buzzer he was afraid to do use it.

He is very frail and unable to walk very far even when using a frame so is unable to get to the bathroom without assistance.

I appreciate that there are several patients needing attention but a patients dignity and welfare should be maintained. I don't believe he is getting a proper wash and care of his skin which is very thin and prone to breaking down. His hair and scalp which I realise is not easy to wash due to the collar protecting his neck but some attempt could be done, particularly as he has to wear the collar for 8/10 weeks.

I do not have transport so have to rely on taxis in order to visit hence the reason for not visiting more than once or twice a week.i also have my own health problems.
