"Miscarriage"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I went for my first pregnancy scan at around 12 weeks and was told that they could not find a heartbeat, the baby had not survived and had only reached 10 weeks. Myself and my partner were devastated and in total shock as I never had any bleeding, no pains and was still getting bad morning sickness.

We were then taken to another room, as I was still carrying we were informed about the three options as to the next stage. Each time the nurse called our miscarried baby "A Product", this wasn't a product to us but our baby and I think to use that term was immoral, distressing and dam right insensitive. Under no circumstances regardless of how many weeks it was when it died, it should never ever be called that. Those words will haunt us for the rest of our lives.

Dear Patient

Thank you for sharing your story with us through Patient Opinion, at what is obviously still a very upsetting time for you and your partner. I was so sorry to note you sufferred a miscarriage, and that there were upsetting conversations during your treatment which added to your distress.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your experience in greater detail, so that we can look into what happened, and would be very grateful if you would contact me through the PALS department ( Patient Advice & Liaison Service) on 01271 314090.

Many thanks
