"Awful!"

About: Leighton Hospital

I called the hospital to explain to them that I haven't felt my baby move or kick all day and I was very worried, and because I wasn't from Crewe they wanted me to get transport back to Chester, In the end I went to Leighton hospital and the midwife was horrible towards me telling me that I need to make my way back to Chester, they didn't care about me or how the baby was doing all they kept saying was I needed to go back to my own hospital in Chester. This midwife then said that they will put me in for a scan for tomorrow as my baby is small, and I'm still waiting for the phone call. The midwife did not make me feel welcome at all

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on NHS Choices. I am sorry you were made to feel unwelcome. The midwife was trying to follow best practice guidelines which recommend that a patient should be seen in the hospital where she chooses to deliver if the concern doesn’t require an emergency admission and the hospital is within reach.

This ensures continuity of care by the team who best know the patient.

I am sorry if this was not explained to you in a compassionate way. If you would like to discuss this further with me then please do not hesitate to contact the customer care team on 01270 612378 who will arrange for you to speak to a me or another senior midwife. Denise Horne. Labour Ward Manager.
