About: Royal Oldham Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Have agonised what to write here.

What could be improved

Almost everything. My mum is 80 years old and was addmitted to Medical assessment unit. A care worker from the home she lives at escorted her in, handed her over, with list of all medication she takes and letter to say she is having operation on broken bone in her back the following monday. It was assumed by us that she would be given this medication by hospital staff at this point. We were wrong. 3 days later after not recieving any tablets she started having anxiety problems. Still the staff didn,t look into this. I went in the evening and by accident discovered why this had happened. I was told they were lost. Nobody seemed to no why, nor care. I then asked would she still be having operation on back on Monday, and yet again no-one knew anything about it. After giving all info to ward sister I assumed it was all logged and dealt with, however, when I rang up on morning of scheduled surgery, staff member I spoke to thought I was ringing with a general, hows my mum enquiry, and was told she's ok just had a bit of back pain. I asked for ward sister who again didn't know she had broken back bones nor knew anything about operation which should have been taking place that morning. My mum is still a patient so I am being a little cautious what I write. We just want her to be pain free and recieve the care she dserves.

Anything else?

I fear for any old people in hospital who have no friends or family to ensure they get looked after properly.
