Ward 18 certainly lived up to the motto of UHL - 'Caring at its Best'. I was discharged on Sunday following a 17 day stay. The care I received was second-to-none. Things have certainly improved since my last stay, 6 years ago. There were the small things that made me comfortable and feel more 'at home' - the housekeeper knew what I wanted for breakfast every day, & how I liked my cups of tea! The food has certainly improved. My buzzer was answered quickly and painkillers administered promptly. The HCAs were knowledgable and efficient. The nursing staff were efficient, knowledgable, personable and approachable - Sis stood-out from the rest. When care was being arranged for me to return home, the nurse in charge was particularly understanding.
Staff in A&E were efficient and I was moved swiftly through the Departments (UCC, Majors, Xray, ward).
My care in CCU was superb and aided my swift recovery - operation number 28 was the best yet!
The surgeon did an amazing job at 'fixing' my leg. Their knowledge of the latest equipment and procedures is brilliant, and I felt confident to be in their care. Also, the anaesthetic team were great with my pre-, during, and post-op care.
The Discharge Response Team provided care for me at home before my 'real' care package started, meaning I could leave hospital slightly earlier.
I hope never to be admitted to hospital again but am confident that the ortho team at the LRI will provide me with the best care!
