Following the result of a routine mammogram my wife required a lumpectomy as part of the investigation for breast cancer. Her treatment from the Breast Care unit has been exceptional and caring by all the BCU staff. Additionally, the surgeon and anaesthetist who conducted the operation were extremely caring and considerate as was the attending staff nurse. However, we were extremely concerned when another member of the nursing staff failed to administer painkillers following instruction from the surgeon/ anaesthetist prior to her surgery. My wife had to point this error out to the theatre sister and was subsequently provided intravenous pain relief - hate to think this could have happened to a less alert patient! Whilst in the recovery room the attendant nurse was less than professional when frustrated with a machine declared " I don't know how this thing works" hardly what you want to hear in a recovery scenario.
