"Poor dignity and respect"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

I attended the eye clinic today and found the staff very friendly and helpful. However I was very unhappy about having my eye examination with the doctor whilst the door was left open allowing everyone in the waiting area to hear and see our conversation.

I then went into a second room to have the consultation when another doctor entered the room mid discussion and started to discuss another patient with me present in the room. The two doctors argued about the patient and her treatment which made me feel very uncomfortable and embarrassed.

Is this not a breach of confidentiality?

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your experience of our Eye Clinic. We are extremely sorry to hear you felt uncomfortable and embarrassed during your recent visit. This is certainly not the sort of experience would expect for our patients and so must apologise for this. We are really concerned by your comments relating to patient confidentiality – you are absolutely correct that this was inappropriate and should not have happened. We would appreciate the opportunity to look into this and investigate; however, without knowing the details of when you visited the department and the doctor you saw we are unable to do so.

We would urge you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 073 0510 whenever is convenient so we can look into this in detail. Thank you.
