"overnight stay"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

I reported to Theatre Direct where I was met by a lovely nurse who checked my details and prepared me for my proceedure placing a canula in my arm providing robes for me to wear etc. They have a very nice, relaxed manner which instantly put me at my ease.

I was then taken down to the Radiology Dept to undergo an uterine artery embolisation. I was greeted by the Interventionalist Radiologist and their team of lovely assistants.

I can't fault their care throughout the whole process. They were all very attentive and quick to act whenever I was in any pain or discomfort. The consultant had my full confidence and was very professional throughout.

After the procedure their team took me through to recovery where their impecable care continued.

Finally I was taken up onto Eden Ward where again I was completely satisfied with my care. The ward was also extremely clean so well done to that department too.

The only criticism I would have are the inflexible visiting hours. My partner and I travelled up from Penzance early in the morning by public transport (as I'm the only driver) it was about 5.15pm before I got to Eden Ward and my partner was told to wait in the Day Room while I was settled in, he was told no visitors were allowed between 4 and 6.30pm and had to beg to see me which was allowed an hour later due to having to get a return train at 7pm which meant we only had 20 minutes together before he had to leave.

I appreciate the wards have protected meal times but as many local hospitals have closed over the years centralising patient care in many instances at Truro this makes it very difficult when you don't live locally and may have to rely on public transport to get you home. A little flexibility (maybe allowing just one person to visit) would have made things a little so much better.

That aside I have known this hospital for many many years and have been a patient twice in the last year. There was a time when, to be honest, I would have struggled to have found many positive things to say. But with my recent experiences I have totally changed my opinions. Thanks to all the wonderful staff.
