"Lonely first time Mum"

About: Pleasley Hill Children's Centre

(as a service user),

Having my first baby was a huge life changer and being the only parent in our social circle made it quite a lonely new life and with the decision to breastfeed my baby it could have quite easily stayed that way. I am really thankful to live so close to Pleasley Hill Children's Centre because without this service I for one would be having a much tougher time adapting to motherhood, and I'm not sure I could have coped with Breastfeeding for so long either.

From the first visit when I registered myself and my baby to the sessions I regularly attend and even the Parent Forum group that I am starting to get involved in the staff and service users have been a warm and welcoming face when the days get tough. I've been given the opportunity to meet other Mums, to vent when everyday life is getting on top of me and I can sit and feed in comfort with staff always on hand to offer a a glass of water to keep me going.

Being able to breastfeed publicly in such a nurturing environment has really helped me to gain confidence in feeding my baby whilst out and about which has made a huge difference to my confidence in taking my baby out and getting a much needed change of scenery on a daily basis. The stay and play sessions and the new baby massage classes are a weekly favourite and give me the chance to chat with other Mums and both myself and my baby are making great friends!

Thank you for your post.

How wonderful it is to hear how Pleasley Children's Centre has supported baby and you. It sometimes is hard being a first time mum and as you have wrote can be a lonely experience, however its great to hear that you have been able to meet other new mums and become involved with the parents forum. I am also very pleased to hear that you have breastfeed your baby and have grown in confidence to feed in different environments. All staff have been trained to support breastfeeding mums and are passionate about it.

I am sure others who maybe in a similar position will read this post and encourage them to come along to their nearest Children's Centre.

Kind Regards
