About: Altrincham General Hospital

I had to have a blood test, requested by my GP, on a Wednesday afternoon.

I have a mobility problem and discovered designated disabled parking spaces have to be booked 4 weeks in advance. The nearest accessible level parking area I could find was in Sainsbury's car park on Lloyd Street, which is quite a distance from the hospital and restricted to 2 hours maximum.

The other problem was the lack of sufficient canopy over the front of the hospital and inadequate in heavy rain.

I am very sorry that you were informed that you had to book a parking space 4 weeks in advance of your hospital visit, as this is not correct. The Appointment Booking team at Altrincham General have now been fully briefed on parking arrangements so that your experience is not repeated. Altrincham General Hospital has 6 dedicated disabled parking bays which are for blue badge holders only. Patients who require a disabled parking space should telephone the Outpatient Reception on 0161 413 7701 in order to pre-book and reserve a parking space for their appointment. In response to your concerns around the insufficient canopy over the front of the hospital, I can confirm that the design and shape of the canopy was developed in collaboration with the Local Authority, to adhere to planning restrictions. The Altrincham General Hospital was built on the Trust land boundary line, therefore the canopy over-sails Trafford Council land and a licence had to be put into place for the canopy over-sail. The canopy has been designed to provide sufficient cover over the steps and ramp prior to entering the hospital, with a further internal dry zone in the entrance lobby, in compliance with current building regulations. I am sorry that you feel the canopy is insufficient and hope that the explanation offered gives you some reassurance that there was a robust planning and decision process involved in the installation of the canopy.
