I would like to offer thanks from my family who were present, me Humphry, Jane and Charlie, for the exemplary care of our son Thomas Evatt by your team, including, but not exclusively: the doctors, the diligent cleaner, the speech therapy team, palliative team, physiotherapists, nurses who so carefully turned him, and countless others - parking, reception, kind staff in the canteen, and many that we don't even know about ...
Our experience was so different from only a year ago, though the circumstances both for us and the staff were even more difficult. You accomplished a task that requires so many qualities and excelled at them all. This is what you did, which cannot have been without personal cost:
You listened and communicated perfectly - to us, to each other, to the patient, our darling son. You showed tender and loving care. You were sympathetic, good hearted, welcoming and tolerant. You were quickly responsive to all Thomas's needs and our wishes, competent, reassuring and decisive.
Thomas's visiting carers were accorded the same respect.
Your approach was constantly professional, that is - targeted and adapted with understanding of and to the individual circumstances. You were helpful even in the smallest matters, diligent and apparently tireless, respectful, calm, patient, wise and compassionate.
In short you transformed a very difficult situation into an experience of his last days which no one could have wished better. This was a great comfort to us all. Thank you all. Humphry Evatt
