We found ourselves unexpectedly being transferred from A and E to the Acute Assessment Unit. The staff on the AAU were simply excellent. They are very busy, but upbeat and all just get on with whatever job they are assigned. They were very flexible about visiting hours and very pleasant during their (long) 12 hours shifts. All of the staff seemed to take pride in their work. The care of the other patients on the ward, such as elderly people, was exemplary, making sure they ate, shaving them and making them comfortable and just being very patient. The two nurses running that section (7) were particularly impressive in terms of giving excellent care and always having time for you. This was certainly not an experience in hospital which bore any relation to the media stories of poor care, quite the opposite.
