"Shambles shambles shamble"

About: University Dental Hospital

I have just recently moved to Manchester and the dentist I am registered with now has got a waiting list of 4-5 months the other once I visited 9-12 months. I can not believe that Manchester surroundings have not got enough NHS dentists that is a total joke.

I came on Thursday morning for the first time to this what you call an emergency dental A&E in so much pain as this pain did not go away even I was taking paracetamol as I can not take ibuprofen as I have Astma.

The person on reception was overly friendly and gave me and advise only card no 5 and asked me to sit down in the waiting area which I did. I waited to be forgotten for nearly 3 hours and the member of reception staff was shouting any more advice only tickets. I went to the desk just to be told by the nurse who done the triage that I can't be seen today and that was Thursday 27/8/2015 and gave me an emergency help phone number to ring to get am appointment with an NHS dentist which failed as there were no appointments anywhere.

They also told me the next time I come I have to be there at 7:45 this is when there open and I was but on arrival the following day Friday the waiting room was already packed with people and I was been given a white ticket with the number 11.

Again I was waiting nearly 2 and a half hours to be refused again as the same person on the triage told me they only can take 6 emergency patients on one day.

My question now to you is "why have than card holders 7-14 or what ever numbers you have have to wait as it's clear that there treatment is getting refused!

I paid £6 for both days in the car park opposit plus wasted time and petrol to be turned away.

Is that how a health system should work?

So so so disappointed

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope on the 27th and 28th August 2015. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

In response to your comment, I can tell you that we are reviewing our triage process and exploring the possibility of an additional dental nurse to triage, and who will also be able to provide advice to patients that we would not be able to be accepted on that day for treatment within the Emergency dental clinic. The Emergency Dental Clinic provides emergency treatment for patients who do not have access to a General Dental Practitioner. Unfortunately, due to the high demands on this service, access is on a first come first seen basis. We accept as many patients as we can for the session and any patients that cannot be accepted that day are provided with advice and details of alternative services where they may be able to access treatment.

It is difficult to respond to all the posts in a full way often because of a lack of detailed information, therefore if you would like to discuss this with us in more detail, please feel free to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk
