"My 92yr old uncle was admitted ..."

About: Northern General Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

My 92yr old uncle was admitted to the hospital feeling ill and confused. At the time, my Tel No was taken by the wonderful paramedics, who assured me it would be passed to the hospital staff. I expessly did not want the hospital to contact my 94yr old mother(sister of patient)who is also recover from surgery and would be confused and frightened by my uncle's admittance to hospital.

Anything else?

When we visited him the next day I had a long conversation with the Sister on Firth 5 and again expessed my wish that, if necessary the hospital telephoned my home, at which point the sister checked his file and highlighted my Tel No. Imagine my dismay to find the next morning, that the ward rang my mother again!

I telephoned the ward only to be told by Staff Nurse that I had better tell my confused and 92yr old Uncle not to ask them to ring! Obviously the staff have no empathy for elderly people.
