"My fathers been treated for most ..."

About: Northern General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

My fathers been treated for most of this year at the Northern General Hospital. He's been attending having various tests after suffering breathing difficulties. Most of these have been completed in a nice, pleasant and understanding way. My Dad was understandably concerned about the tests and what the results would show. Staff who were performing the tests were patient and understanding, until he went for his final test in the Eco-cardigram department. So apart from this last test the hospital have delivered an outstanding service to my Dad. Nurses even making all the patients a cup of tea when the doctor was running very very late for appointments. This is a nice human touch which shows the staff see the patients as people and not just a number on a sheet. I am just really sad that the woman who delivered my Dads test was unpleasant, rude and made my Dad feel worthless. My Dad was having the test because he was having problems breathing and therefore she surely should have expected him to find it difficult. She even shouted at him. I understand she was trying to get a clear picture on the test but i feel maybe she should be sent on a patient awareness course. My Dad had only found out 10 days before he had Emphysema and was still coming to terms with this. I feel it is a real shame that one member of staff can be so unpleasant she can undo all the good work all the other doctors, nurses and general staff have done for months. A big thank you and well done to 99% of the staff.

What could be improved

I explained the problem my Dad encounter above and feel the hospital maybe should give patients a feedback sheet after the visit to evaluate the members of the staff who have delivered tests and made appointments etc. It would then give management a general picture of staff who needed to attend a refresher course on how they deal with the patients.I feel this would stop negative feedback in the press about hospitals and its staff because like i explained above apart from the one bad appointment my Dad as been looked after great.

Anything else?

Again I would just like to say a big thank you to all the kind and caring staff who work at the Northern General Hospital.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave feedback on your recent experience.

The Trust have recently introduced new methods of collating patient feedback and will continue to identify new ways of capturing patients views in the future.
