I would like to give a big thank you to all the staff at the Surgical Short Stay Unit at the Royal Surrey for the excellent service they provided to me yesterday. Both the nursing staff in the unit and the surgical team that were involved with my minor procedure, were unfailingly caring, sympathetic and informative. I felt I was treated as an adult in discussions with the medical team and was especially reassured to learn from one of the them that I and Michael Owen shared to same problem, with his being much more serous than mine).
I have no complaints but a few observations; my waiting time before surgery was over 8 hours, and although alerted to this in the briefing notes, I could have perhaps reported at a later time than 7.30am. I also found it odd to have to repeat the same questionnaire 4 (or was it 5 times) although one cannot fault the thoroughness of those tasked with doing this. More importantly, I am told that the nursing staff work 12 hour shifts each day without any overtime which I think is quite unfair considering the wonderful job they do. Give then a rise.
Lastly, although I hope not to have to return for further surgery, I would be reassured that if I did I would receive the same excellent professional care that I have just experienced. Well done to the NHS.
