I had to report to gate 31 for admission at 07.00 for an operation to remove my prostate due to cancer. Everything was clearly signed and had no problem finding the desk. The reception staff were friendly and courteous. I only had to wait about 10 minutes before being called through by a happy and smiling nurse who explained what was going to happen and then carried out the necessary checks before asking me to get ready for theatre. The nurse offered assistance if I needed it. The anaesthetist then came and introduced themselves before checking details and describing what would happen. They gave me the opportunity to ask questions I might have. The surgeon then arrived and introduced themselves before taking me through the procedure and giving the chance to ask more questions. I was then walked to the theatre where everything happened just the way everyone had described. No pain, no drama, no fuss just efficient action and reassuring words until I was asleep. recovery was paradise with friendly staff, no pain, smiling faces and a bit of low key banter. Off to Ward 34b and a lovely, clean, bright single room with a large window. It was raining outside and I just so comfortable that I could not believe I was recovering from an operation. All of the staff on the ward were lovely and very friendly whilst also giving an air of professional efficiency. I had a comfortable night, enjoyed breakfast and lunch the following day and following the excellent nursing care I received I was discharged that afternoon. My GP had been updated, district nurses notified, follow up appointments made. I am sat here four days later with just minor discomfort and no bruising feeling so very, very lucky to have been treated by such a wonderful team of people. Well done to you all and thanks so much for fixing me.
