"shocking treatment in mayflower ward"

About: Broomfield Hospital

my husband had damaged his finger and was referred to mayflower on Thursday 20th August. The specialist wanted to do microsurgery to check the extent of the wound and make sure there was no tendon damage so we were given an appointment for Saturday at 1pm. Our visit on the Thursday was fantastic. All staff very helpful and informative. Sadly this did not continue. We arrived on Saturday for the 1pm appointment and were asked to take a seat in the day room. That's where we waited and waited and waited. After 2 hours we went to find someone who said there would be a wait. At no point did anyone tell us that we would be waiting and the appointment time was irrelevant. We were not the only people waiting without any updates. I appreciate that emergencies come in but it would be common courtesy for the nurses to update the patients. The only way to get an update was to find a nurse who would say it's about an hour. My husband eventually went for surgery at 20.20. I find the whole thing totally ridiculous. People are expected to sit and wait with no information or updates. Yesterday the nhs was a major let down. A simple update either half hourly or hourly would have made everyone a lot happier. I find it very rude to leave people in a room with no information and expect them to wait indefinitely. The care received whilst in surgery was fantastic but because of the wait we were very close to walking out. A new system needs to be put in place so that patients are given regular updates and treated with respect rather than ignored. Very disappointed
