Ambulance services brought me to the Whittington Hospital's Accident and Emergency Dept in the early hours of the morning in late May 2015 due to having a psychotic episode. By the time I arrived I was calm and alone. After waiting for approx three hours with absolutely nobody giving me any attention and me asking over and over again when I would be seen I told them that I was leaving. It was from then that they decided to do an on the spot mental health examination before they allowed me to go. I called a cab and took myself to the Royal Free Hospital's A+E dept instead where I received care very quickly. What I found most appalling about Whittington Hospital's A+E was how dirty it was and when I kept up a fuss about being totally ignored one staff member took me into a filthy cubicle with a bloody dressing bowl still present on the side and a bed with soiled sheets on it. I looked at other empty cubicles and they were all the same, dirty. At another point I was shown into a room that looked worse then a prison cell. It is the worst a+e I have ever had the displeasure of going to. There was something very awful and decrepid about Whittington's A+E. Ambulance services had to visit my home due to panic attacks three nights in a row and because I refused to go back to Whittington they took me to North Middlesex Hospital three nights in a row instead where I had to wait a while to be seen but it was in a far better clean modern and efficient environment. When I was at the Whittington that night all these patients kept getting wheeled past me that looked grey and close to death. I mentioned this to somebody and they was like "oh that's the grave yard shift". It has put me off of the Whittington Hospital for life. I have a routine mammagram appointment in September and I'm dreading it.
