"1st Class Treatment from A & E Urgent Care Centre"

Damaged my leg in France such I needed an operation before returning to the UK. Received excellent care in France.

Back home phoned the Fracture Clinic at Wythenshawe to obtain continuing Orthopaedic care. Directed to attend A & E with all my French papers, CT scans and X-rays.. Anyone who has tried to transfer between UK hospitals knows it is not a simple procedure. Thus expected transferring between countries to be more problematic.

Triage in A & E worked well. They passed me to their Urgent Care Centre. The French surgeon had used 24 staples to seal the wound in my leg. I wanted the wound examined to determine when the staples could be safely removed. I was attended to by a senior nurse who used their knowledge and skills perfectly. From the nurse's examination and questioning of past medical history they determined I might have an infection and called a doctor.

The result was no infection but advised to return without delay if I later felt unwell.

Reviewed the medication provided in France and thoroughly answered all my questions.

The nurse completed their work by entering urgent request in the hospital electronic system to the Fracture Clinic for a prompt appointment.

Finally provided with a direct phone number to follow up if I was not contacted within 48 hours.

The service I received at Wythenshawe was exactly as expected from the NHS; excellent. How do the French and English systems compare ? Both were excellent but I give the extra mark to Wythenshawe. The nurse made the difference. I think they went beyond my expectation. Many thanks. I am most grateful.
