"Pneumonia"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

I was admitted by ambulance on a very busy Friday night with severe dehydration and a high temperature. After a number of tests and an X-ray I was diagnosed with pneumonia. I was too ill to note the wards I was taken to but I think they were the Acute Medical Unit followed, next day, by the Higher Monitoring Unit. When my recovery was under way I was moved to Adelaide Annexe.

At every stage of treatment I was treated with the utmost professionalism and kindness by every member of staff I met. This was in spite of their being constantly busy, particularly on the Higher Monitoring Unit. I was very impressed by the teamwork of the staff. Everything progressed like a well oiled machine, yet managed to maintain a warm caring environment. The ancillary services were also wonderful including the cleaners, the people who changed the beds and the tea staff.

The food was just right for an ill person: hot, tasty, appropriate portions and sensible choices.

My heartfelt thanks to your overworked staff. Also thanks to 111 who called the ambulance and the ambulance staff who were also so kind and professional.
