"never make the same mistake twice"

About: Lydney & District Hospital Site

On 27th July, I went to the 'A & E' department of Lydney hospital, having been thrown during a full-contact sparring session as part of marital arts demonstration. I had been left writhing in agony as my knee appeared to dislocate. The circumstances were explained to the Nurse on duty. I presented with typical cruciate ligament injury symptoms; leg unable to bend/straighten, unable to weight bear and extreme swelling. I was sent home after a cursory examination being told 'everything was fine, nothing was damaged as nothing appeared to moving inside the knee'. . . the reason I was there was because 'nothing was moving!' I question the validity and rationale of testing for movement of ligaments, etc. when the leg is to swollen to move/examine. I was not offered an x-ray and never saw a Doctor. Two weeks later I went to see my own Doctor, still unable to bend or straighten the leg, unable to sleep at night due to the pain and walking with a permanent limp, my work seriously affected, etc. To be told, 'why didn't you go to A & E? This is a serious injury.' I am now on a waiting list to see the sports injury team at Gloucestershire. My Doctor has told me that this is a great shame as it will now take ages to be seen and I should have been referred in the first instance. This is very poor treatment but I should have known better than to trust Lydney hospital again. In 2003/4, I severed my anterior cruciate ligament in my left leg, again Lydney hospital sent me away. It then took 11 months in the 'system' before I saw a specialist and by then the ligament had atrophied. Now it would appear I have been placed in exactly the same position by the same hospital. I will never go to Lydney hospital again. I could be lame for life.
