"The new build. It's long ..."

About: Pontefract General Infirmary

(as a relative),

What I liked

The new build. It's long overdue, as the old hospital just looks unkept (even though the staff try hard to keep it clean).

What could be improved

Bay curtains! They are touched by everyone going in and out of a bay, yet they are often covered in blood and other bodily fluid. I'd be curious to see how many different bacteria and virus' are living on them! Doesn't bear thinking about!!!

Anything else?

It's so sad reading all these experiences. Women should not been left for long periods when they could be in premature labour, patients should not have to wait for hours for medication, unless there is a reason (which should then be explained), the list goes on.

But, I think the main reason for them all is understaffing. Yes, there are some plain rude Dr's/nurses/midwives/HCA's etc and these should be reported and dealt with, but the majority of the staff do care and want to help more but can't as they are so busy.

This is the same at all hospitals, not just Pontefract. Maybe people should start complaining about the lack of staff to management/government and maybe then, things will change!

The Trust places great importance on achieving high standards of hygiene accross all our hospital sites. Whilst it is difficult to respond to generalised comments, we are happy to investigated specific issues of concern and would invite the author to contact us on 01924 213684.
