"The level of cleanliness was not ..."

About: Kettering General Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The level of cleanliness was not bad considering the bad reputation the hospital has locally.

What could be improved

Communication, bedside manner of nearly all the nursing staff (most were rude or arrogant and talked too much about themselves). IT equipment like a TV or radio per bed - one tiny portable TV per 6 beds is just so 1960s! Not even a radio!

Anything else?

Yes - the old lady in the bed opposite my sister was pretty much left to her own devices. She could not sit up and was catheterised - but no-one helped her eat - she was obviously hungry as she ate a teabag! My sister was ill and only a bit mobile but she still had to go and find nurses to come to her's or the older patients aid regularly as the buzzers were often ignored for 30 minutes at a time. This is the most shameful experience I've ever experienced of the NHS and I was only a visitor. It has had a profound effect on me and my family - so much so that we've all sworn to look after each other more so that we don't have to depend on this failing decrepit service in our twilight years!
