"Nurse engaged brilliantly with my son"

About: Royal Hospital for Sick Children (Yorkhill) / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

Just wanted to say a huge thanks to Nurse Practitioner Dawn, who sorted my 9 year old son's ankle injury.

She was thorough and knowledgeable, and engaged brilliantly with him. The rapport she built meant he trusted her when she asked him to do things that hurt (put weight on it) to make it better. Thank you!

I work in a small team in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde which seeks to involve patients and carers in the work of the NHS. The biggest part of my role is in managing feedback projects across the Board area, one of which is Patient Opinion. It is my job to give our patients and carers the opportunity to give us feedback, and to make sure that this is passed to the right people to help us improve the services we provide.

Dear Yarg,

This is a really lovely story to read, and it will be nice for me to be able to pass on your kind comments to Dawn to let her know the difference she made.

You've shown so clearly how important it is to build this kind of trust with patients, particularly at such a young age.

I hope that your son has made a full recovery, and thank you for getting in touch.

Best Wishes,

Lorna
