"Contradictory advice - pointless treatment"

I have an insect bite that has become very infected - very large blister and is clearly now filled with pus. NHS helpline advised going to Walk-in at RUH. Was assessed by triage nurse who advised it needed to be drained by the doctor. Went back to reception, made appt to see doctor. Doctor advised me triage nurse could have drained it but the nurse wouldn't as it was best not to break skin. I pointed out skin was broken and it was oozing, the nurse just smiled at me. Then said I should have gone to GP so nurse there could squeeze it. Confused, I asked are you saying it needs to be drained or not? Again, the nurse just smiled and said 'they might' and advised there wasn't a walk in-service at hospital (despite being told it was by Helpline). How is a patient supposed to work out their best course of action in the face of this? Gave me a prescription and put enormous bandage over it. Bandage wasn't attached well, after 2 hours has already come off - worse than the one I applied myself. Utterly pointless visit and totally unclear if I should seek further help.
