What I liked
Under the care of my wonderful independent midwife, I unfortunately suffered a rare labor complication. My son's umbilical cord was prolapsed. I was rushed by ambulance to Lincoln County Hospital where they were expecting me and immediately proceeded with an emergency C-section under general anesthesia. My son was born healthy. However, I was having a hard time getting over the anesthesia and moving around after the surgery. The nurses, midwives, and orderlies were so helpful, so courteous, so friendly, and understanding. I couldn't have asked for better care, especially since I was expecting the worst based on what other mother's who had delivered there told me.
What could be improved
The NHS really needs to get over not allowing Independent midwives to deliver in their hospitals. The staff shortages at this hospital are hopeless and it reflects in the faces of the current staff. If Independent midwives were allowed to assist with the care of their patients, then maybe it would ease the burden of the hospital/community midwives.
