"Excellent standard of care"

About: NHS Northumberland CCG Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

(as the patient),

I was rushed to Cramlington new hospital with a suspected stroke.

The paramedics were excellent and they arrived in New Hartley within 10 minutes. The care at the new hospital was excellent, with a brain scan and an ECG. Luckily, there was no damage to the vital organs.

They instructed me to see my doctor Dr Rajagopal. I have been a patient of his for a few years and my opinion of him is more than excellent. He listens and is so understanding.

In my life, I have had a lot of doctors, and I have found many very judgemental. Not Dr. Rajagopal. He will do his utmost to put things right and has a very wide understanding of medicine. His calmness is very welcoming when one has faced a trauma. If all doctors were like him the world would be a better place.

Dear Dragonfly1,

Many thanks for this review - it sounds like you've had a pretty scary time being rushed to The Northumbria with a suspected stroke? Sorry to hear that.

It was lovely to read your story however because you describe exactly the kind of joined up and co-ordinated care that we want for all our patients, everywhere.

Stroke is a medical emergency, so it is essential that all aspects of the service play their part in supporting immediate access to rapid assessment. I'm delighted that this was the case for you and happier still that the outcome was so positive.

It is lovely to hear that you were very impressed with the service at our new emergency care hospital - I will pass on your thanks to the stroke team and staff in emergency care. I will also share your gratitude with our colleagues in the North East ambulance service who did such a great job of bringing you in to hospital so quickly.

Your GP Dr Rajagopal does sound like an amazing doctor - I can appreciate what a difference it makes when being cared for by someone who has that very special 'human touch'.

I am delighted that he was able to quickly follow you up, on transfer out of hospital, to provide you with the emotional support and advice you needed.

Do take great care of yourself and come back to us if there is any more info that you need to stay healthy.

with all best wishes,

Annie
