"My husband attending Wishaw General Hospital"

About: Wishaw General Hospital / Emergency department

(as a relative),

Unfortunately after returning from our family holiday my husband had to attend Wishaw General Accident and Emergency. While travelling home he began suffering from severe abdominal pain and sickness. As I checked him in his condition was worsening. Shortly after excellent care he was diagnosed and admitted to ward 18 where he was given IV antibiotics and fluids as he was severely dehydrated.

The next day Mr Kaseem explained my husbands condition to him and explained his treatment, which at the time sounded very straight forward. On IV antibiotics for a few days and hopefully home soon.

This was far from 'straight forward'. 48 hours after being admitted to the ward my husband was moved to ACCU and fighting for his life. I was told he was severely dehydrated and he needed "a wee bit extra care". As I visited him shortly after being moved to ACCU I was introduced to Liam (nurse practitioner) and Mr Kaseem and numerous nurses.

That night (and weekend) was touch and go. My husband gradually began to improve and respond to treatment. My husband and I, as well as our families would like to thank staff in Accident and Emergency, ward 18 and 16. Also all nursing staff in ACCU Liam (nurse practitioner) consultants. I would like to thank Mr Kaseem above all as without him life for myself and my 3 young sons would be very different.
