We are sorry that you did not have a good experience here at The Christie when you received your chemotherapy in 2009-10. At this time, chemotherapy was given on Ward 5 and the Chemotherapy suite and we saw an increasing number of treatments, above our capacity which caused longer waits for patients than we would have liked. As a result of this, the chemotherapy treatment units moved to the Oak Road Treatment Centre, a purpose built facility which opened in December 2010, after you had completed your treatment. We have also made a lot of changes to improve waiting times and monitor these on a daily basis, for example • Developing our outreach services to provide treatments closer to home • Our nurse led services has helped to reduce waits for treatment to the extent that 87% of all our patients receive their treatments within an hour of their appointment time. We do still have some delays, some of which are caused by the sheer numbers of patients we treat on a daily basis. Our unit is much larger than other chemotherapy units around the country, and causes some specific challenges for us not experienced by other units. Feedback from patients who have visited over a number of years is that the service is much improved.
