"waste of time appointment"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital

My wife and I went to see a consultant regarding a diagnosis and hopefully treatment for a condition called hyperacusis.. We were completely dismissed by the consultant who laughed us out the room, waving their hand dismissively at us saying there were no issues because my wife had "perfect hearing" they wouldn't discuss any of their symptoms and when they were told she was living her life in earplugs and had to have a fan on constantly at home and had zero teolerance to any noise they told us we needed to stop the noise coming through walls from outside! When we tried to asked about hyperacusis being treatable they dismissed us again saying there was nothing that could be done and we had read too much info and too many books! when asked if they were the consultant that deals with hyperacusis - they said they all which dismayed us even more! This appointment was the worst appointment I have ever been party to. My wife was sent via her GP after her consultant psychiatrist asked for this to be looked at. The info on the NHS website regarding Hyperacusis is very informative - someone should tell this "consultant" to have a read of it themselves! We phoned the PALS service immediately after as we felt absolutely shocked and dismayed by the attitude of this person and they were very helpful and called us back the next day with an appointment to see another consultant in 3 weeks. The reason I'm putting this on here is because if you feel anything like we did yesterday - please do something about it. Even if the Dr was right - which if they are then the Website and all other information on hyperacusis is wrong - they should have explained this and given time to ask questions and help us understand.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to read you had such a disappointing consultation. I am pleased a further appointment has been arranged, and confirm your experience is being conisdered in the team.
