"Dirty Hospital- winging it"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

My mother turned up for an ultrasound assisted biopsy. We had to ask if we were at the right ward as we thought it was a stock room. There were full cages against a he walls and outside the ultrasound room an empty box had been thrown & the floor was filthy. We were told that her consultant had changed then we were told it hadn't. When my mum eventually went in they discovered that they should have booked her in for a morning appointment as it wasn't where they thought & she would have to return next week. When she did finally have the procedure, they failed to give enough anaesthetic! They had to go through the liver to take a biopsy of her lymph node and she felt everything! Afterward they said "never mind, it's done now". A nurse in recovery didn't even have the courtesy to inform my mother what they were doing and pulled her line out, didn't utter a word. Rude, dirty and incompetent!

Thank you for your feedback. We express our sincere apologies that the nurse in recovery was so rude and did not speak to your mother - it is not the level of service we expect. If you could contact our Patient Relations Department on 0118 322 8338 or email talktous@royalberkshire.nhs.uk and provide the details of the appointment, it will allow us to investigate the issue further and identify the area concerned.
