"Nursing Staff excellent - Medical/Admin lacking"

Briefly - Admitted Saturday through A&E (Ambulance) Discharged Monday with a diagnosis of Peptic Ulcers (they couldn't find anything else so said that this is what it must be). Paid £38 Taxi fare. Got home and had a phone call 2 hours later saying go back as they hadn't looked at blood tests, and these showed an anomaly. When I got back I had to go through screening again, and was left in a screening unit for 4 hours while they looked for a bed - they said they were very busy. Eventually sent back to exactly the same ward as I left, but in a different bay. The bed I left was still unoccupied, as was the one next to me at that time, so obviously their definition of busy is different to mine. On Tuesday I was moved to yet another ward. More tests were done, and by Wednesday they'd now come up with 'cholecystitis'. While this is almost always accompanied by Gallstones I didn't have any, although this didn't seem to worry the doctors, and was not explained to me (without gallstones the condition is a lot more complex). All I was told was that I would need my Gall bladder removed in about 60 days- they seemed very keen to do this. I was then told I would be discharged on Wednesday - I made all arrangements, my daughter arranged time off work leaving London to pick me up. Just two hours before I was due to leave they changed their minds - said I needed to stay another night for observation - fair enough, but a bit late to decide this, and my daughter had already left work. An hour later they then wanted me to change wards again..!! How do they monitor overnight if the nursing staff are all different? I refused and eventually stayed (their reasoning was that they needed the bed - well - there were still empty beds in the ward the next day so that doesn't really hold true) I was eventually released on Thursday I would like to say that throughout this saga the Nursing staff in the words were exemplary - no praise is too high. However the admin of wards is lacking - how can you relax if you're being moved every day, and how can the day to day nursing staff observe changes? The medical staff left me with no confidence whatsoever. I'd estimate that I spoke with them for a total of no more than three minutes on any particular day - they gave the impression that they just wanted to remove the gall bladder, and wouldn't explain any pros or cons (and certain parts of the diagnosis seemed to be missing - I had very bad trapped wind, which they weren't concerned with - this gives very similar symptoms of pain, but I had to get relief myself, whereupon a lot of the pain went away) Summarising - Nursing Staff great, but for any medical problems I will steer well clear of the RBH if I possibly can. Any removal of the gall bladder, if needed, will take place elsewhere
