"nothing!"

About: Stafford Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

nothing!

What could be improved

For starters, some parking other than staff only near A&E. Then greeted by a large sign on the entrance doors to 'wash your hands', only problem there is that htere was no hand gel in the scruffy, uncomfortable, inhospitable and cold waiting area. Next was reception, having stood for several minutes(and disabled) I was told my borother was not located so 'try again in 5 minutes'. This was done, only had to rejoin the queue and waited again, this time the nurse was with him and no we could still not see him, but they would call us through rather brusquely. Myself and my partner then waited for nearly an hour, still with no contact regarding my brother(admitted with angina and abdominal pain), before daring to enquire again. This time, the doctor was with him and no he could not be seen, at this I was somewhat irritated, and was briefly allowed in. Here I found doctors debating what may be wrong and because of my discomfort of having to wait an hour and 20 minutes to see him, had to leave. He spent approximately 4 hours in A&E, so when we telephoned to find his whereabouts, nobody could tell us anything, and not to contact the ward for an hour! This whole episode is an absolute disgrace to nursing, medical care and family care.

Anything else?

Oh yes, the car park allowed disabled persons to park free, but how to exit was not as the signs had been removed. On our departure, we went to main reception to enquire and was told how to proceed by helpful lady on desk. This we did, but was greeted by an extremely rude man on the end of the intercom, I explained as instructed by reception, but was told even more rudely 'to read the signs, and press button and give disabled badge number'.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent experience when you attended as a relative. We are sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the service you received - we would like to offer our sincere apologies for this. We encourage all our visitors to wash their hands to help us reduce the spread of infection. In the A&E Waiting area there is a dedicated toilet with hand washing facilities. Your comments have been forwarded to our Patient Experience Lead.
