About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

Got admitted to ENT after a episode of vomiting and being unable to Breathe. Still unable to eat while on the ward, the doctor said there was nothing wrong with me. Dosed me up on painkillers and told me to force myself to eat. The next day I was practically thrown off the ward, even though I told the doctor I still felt extremely ill. Had to get an emergency appointment with my GP who immediately sent me back to A&E, saying I had all the symptoms of having had a stroke. On examination at A&E was immediatelly admitted to the stroke ward. These symptoms had been missed by the doctors on the ENT ward, who had happily sent me home in that condition. Spent the next week on a stroke ward, where it was thankfully determined that it was not a stroke. On discharge from ENT I was told I would be recalled in 2 weeks for a Barium Xray. 6 weeks later I had to phone the hospital to find out what was happening, and to find out why I had not yet received my appointment. Was then told that they had lost my details, and would look into it. Finally got a recall 2 weeks after that. When I attended this recall, I fully expected to be having the Barium Xray as requested by the doctor on the ward, but found that I was just to see another doctor, who again said I needed to be recalled for a Barium Xray, so I was in exactly the same place as I was 8 weeks previously, as it would appear that the doctors at BVH are not willing to communicate with each other, and continue the treatment already specified by the previous doctor. Finally got the Xray, only to receive a letter a few weeks later saying that everything is normal, and they will not be giving me anymore treatment, even though I still cannot talk or eat properly. One thing I must point out is that none of this criticism is aimed at the nursing staff at the hospital, I found the nurses and healthcare assistants did a fantastic job, even though they were run off their feet and totally overworked.
