"The facilities were exceptional ..."

About: North Staffs Maternity Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked The facilities were exceptional and 99.99% of the staff I came into contact with were friendly, warm and generally fantastic! (I think the 0.01% was having a bad day!) What could be improved? The only slight difficulty I had was with standard procedures. I wanted to be internally examined because of the amount of pain I was in, but was advised this could only be done every four hours. By the time my next exam took place I was well established in labour and it turns out could have had pain relief (other than paracetamol) a good few hours earlier. Frustrating, but just one of those things I guess. Everyone was so professional and on hand at all times that to be fair it's difficult to grumble :o) Anything else? I desperately wanted a home birth, but due to various minor complications was advised against it. Having always been petrified of hospitals I was dubious about being admitted, but can honestly say that for the next one (despite my daughter being 11 days old I know I want another one!) I would gladly go back into the unit. My labour was long and exhausting, but the staff made everything much easier to cope with. I can't praise them enough!
