"Cardiology appointment"

About: Ormskirk & District General Hospital

I was referred to the cardiology department in November 2014, the appointment was not provided until the end if July 2015. When I arrived I was treated with courtesy by the nurses but when it came to see the doctor it was not the consultant I expected, while this in itself need not have been a problem, the doctor that saw me was very dismissive. They did not introduce themself by name or position, nor did they explain why my GP had referred me. I have no previous medical evidence regarding my heart available because I had lived abroad the previous 20 years, however the doctor simply assumed everything would have been investigated abroad and that I therefore had no issues other than high blood pressure. I have suffered from a number of health issues for many years and from my notes they should have appreciated that my life has been very compromised. A small amount of their time could have made a big difference to me, this is especially true after I had waited so long for the appointment and because my GP has been waiting for the appointment before changing my treatment. I feel that many months have been wasted and that my health has suffered unnecessarily. The doctor mentioned they might suggest another medication but made no attempt to explain the nature of the drug, how it worked or how it differed from the others I take it have taken. When I asked so why it was that I could not walk any distance they simply replied they didn't know, without any suggestion of how to find out. They seemed to either not want to believe me or just considered it none if their business. This was the first real disappointment with the NHS service that I have experienced during my first year back, it is a shame the poor attitude of one doctor to a patient can undermine all the good work of others.
