I was induced at midnight, my waters broke within 30 minutes. I started feeling contractions soon after. My husband was sent home at 3am, as according to the midwives, I wouldn't be in established labour for at least another 8-12 hours. He reluctantly left. I was stuck on the quiet side of the postnatal ward, in a bed in between two women who were being observed antenatally, in no pain and sleeping. The pain got stronger and when I finally asked for some pain relief around 6am, the midwife on duty said they would come around with some paracetamol soon. An hour later, they still hadn't come. I waked over to them and asked for pain relief and they gave me some paracetamol and a cup of water. By 8am the pain was so bad I called for a midwife and they just handed me the gas and air, without explaining how to use it properly. It was now coming up to 9am and I now felt I needed to push. A different midwife examined me and said "you're 9cm dilated, why are you not on the labour ward?!" I was stuck in a wheelchair and had to grab my mobile off the side to ring my mum and husband and tell them to come quick. I really thought I was going to give birth alone. Luckily, within a few minutes of them arriving, I gave birth. Worst experience of my life. I'm very much traumatised by it.
"Had to labour on my own, ignored my the night..."
