"Would not believe me"

Attended last week. ter 10 years continuing eye problems the department has decided that there is nothing wrong with me and that I am irrational. Therefore they do not want to treat me any more. Nevertheless my eye problems continue and I tried to explain this to the doctors, but they either didn't listen or didn't believe me. This may be due to mental health stigma or discrimination as I have always been open with the hospital about my mental health problems. I expected to be taken seriously and to be believed, instead I am left with no where to turn. Very unhappy, very worried. Feel very let down. Very concerned about vision as problems continue and are very real even though they don't seem to leave anything in the eye that Dr can see. Don't know where to turn if the hospital just writes me off as irrational. I have 10 years of good reasons for thinking my sight is at risk, I am upset that these reasons were not listened to, not believed and considered irrational. My vision should be checked regularly by a Dr who believes what I tell them. Now they don't even want me in their department. I feel that I have been stigmatised because of mental health issues.

We're deeply concerned to read your posting and we apologise that you are feeling 'very let down' by the staff in Opthalmology and that you continue to be worried about your eye problems. At this point you may find it helpful to speak to your General Practitioner (GP) in detail about your concerns. May we assure you that we take all comments and postings very seriously, and we are alarmed to hear that you feel you have been discriminated against. We have therefore forwarded your concerns to the Clinical Lead within the Ophthalmology department and our Equality and Diversity Lead. You may be interested to know that we also have a Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) who are happy to listen to patients concerns and offer advice.
