"Urgent assessment on Cherry ward"

About: Scarborough General Hospital

I was taken by ambulance to Cherry Ward feeling very poorly indeed. I had serious kidney infection caused by non too pleasant bacteria which found their via the urinary tract. The onset was extremely quick and I went downhill rapidly. On arrival at Scarborough it was found that I had Pyelonephritis, Pneumonia and a bowel infection. A bed was waiting in a side room including ensuite toilet facility. Just as well. I also had the runs.Every urine treated as a specimen and the same with the numerous stool(?) samples. I had not taken food for 3 days and when I drank fluids they were vomitted immediatly. Fortunately, all necessary precautions were taken and I was on intravenous antibiotics and fliuds immediately. I had a bad night while staff were trying to stabilze my temp. which peaked at 38.7 and troughed at 36.8 for 2.5 days. I had an XRAY and eventually a scan. A day and half in I still refused to drink water or eat. This when I met the ward sister and member of the Royal College of Nursing, they asked why I was not eating and drinking and I said I could not keep it down but was envious of the way they savoured a cuppa. Off they went and 5 mins later returned with a small bowl of cereal and they had made me the most wonderful cuppa i had ever tasted. I had half the cereals .From that point and a few special cuppas whenever possible I was on the mend and 5 days later discharged. The ward sister and their tremendously selfless team were extremely diligent, resourceful patient and most of the time under pressure, howeve it did not detract from the total care and devotion. This is Scarborough hospital, skint, under staffed and under payed. They are deicated and should be justifiably proud: They make the hospital. Well done and my thanks especiall to the ward sister, Cherry ward.
